Record Rummage (US) – 35: George Harrison

Always wanted a copy of this. And when I finally had - three, at the last glance - I wondered why.

GEORGE HARRISON
All Things Must Pass
(Apple, 1970)

Famous triple-album box set. Nice heavy vinyl. Great songtitles: “I Remember Jeep”, “What Is Life?”, “I Dig Love”. Try to avoid sides five and six — smash them perhaps, or give them to Bruce Pavitt from Sub Pop cos he appreciates this kind of thing, stoned millionaires drooling all over the platter for 25 minutes straight. Still! Contains the song so badly ripped from The Chiffons (“My Sweet Lord”) they sued the ex-Beatle and then rubbed his nose in the dirt by doing a version of their song which segued into his. Contains two versions of the song that Galaxie 500 covered (“Isn’t It A Pity”). Each disc proudly declares “recorded in England”. The box has been very cleverly reconstructed with duck tape by a previous owner so you no longer have to go through the arduous process of opening it up, but instead can whip the records straight out of the bottom. The cover is a famous picture of grumpy George with his galoshes and lawn gnomes on a well-manicured back corner of his enormous estate. We were so chuffed at finding this one for under a buck, we didn’t even stop to consider whether it was any good. But three records is far too many to figure out how to put away.
Cost 92 cents. Bargain value: (triple) album 6, slip cover 2
